OwlAttic Terminal Download

SSH · Telnet · Serial — for Windows, macOS and Linux

A clean, fast terminal
for your servers and devices.

SSH, Telnet and serial sessions, files, port forwarding and local shells — in a full workbench or a single quiet window. Native Rust, GPU-rendered, and free with no limit on servers while it is in beta.

Version 0.1.3 for Windows, macOS and Linux, released October 19, 2026.

The OwlAttic Terminal workbench: a shell on one server beside a build and its files on another.

The workbench: two servers in one workspace, each tab marked with its server.

Two ways to work

A workbench when you need one.
Just a terminal when you don’t.

Switch from the window’s menu at any time. Nothing disconnects, and no session starts over.

Switching from the workbench to Mini mode and back: the same tabs, the same sessions.

Workbench

Connections, workspaces and layout pages in one window, with a status bar and tools on the side. For looking after many servers.

Mini

Just tabs and the terminal, like Windows Terminal: one window per workspace, connections a click away in the app menu.

Layout

Arrange it the way you think.

Drag a tab to any edge of a pane to split it, or onto another tab strip to join it. A preview shows where it will land before you let go.

  • Any pane holds any tab: shells, files, the remote editor, server status, port forwarding.
  • Layout pages keep separate arrangements in one workspace, and one workspace can mix servers.
  • Drag a tab out into a new window or across windows. Moving a tab never drops its session.
A tab dragged to the lower half of a pane splits it, with a blue preview first; then it is dragged back to its tab strip.

Connections

SSH, done properly.
Telnet and serial, too.

One form for every kind of connection, with the details that matter when a server is not in the same room.

  • Jump hosts, and HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5 proxies
  • Passwords, private keys, or automatic like ssh; two-factor codes; login credentials shared by several servers
  • Host key checks, keep-alives and automatic reconnects
  • Telnet for switches and older devices; serial ports with baud rate, parity and flow control, and a hex view
  • Import from ~/.ssh/config in a few clicks
The New connection form: SSH, Telnet or Serial, with pages for the jump host and the proxy.

Organized

Every server in its place.

Group servers, give each a short tag and a color, add notes, and connect with a double click — or type user@host into quick connect. Every tab shows which server it belongs to.

The connections list, grouped into Production, Staging, Home lab and Network, with a Telnet switch and a serial console.

Features

Everything you reach for, nothing you don’t.

Built for people who live in SSH sessions all day and want their tool to be fast, calm and predictable.

Files beside your shell

Browse, upload and download over SFTP. Edit remote files in their own window, with encoding and line endings kept, and preview images.

Port forwarding

Local, dynamic (SOCKS5) and remote forwarding, saved with each server and started again after a reconnect.

Local shells, too

PowerShell, Command Prompt, WSL and Git Bash, found on their own. Same terminal, same shortcuts.

A vault, not a password file

Saved passwords and private keys are encrypted on your computer with your master password, and lock with your screen.

Your server at a glance

CPU, memory, network, disks and the busiest processes of a Linux server, read over the same connection. Nothing to install on the server.

Snippets

Keep the commands you repeat, with blanks to fill in, and send them to the terminal you are working in — typed, or run at once.

Session logs

Save what a session prints to a text file: SSH, Telnet, serial ports and local shells alike.

Find in the terminal

Search a terminal’s output and history without leaving the keyboard.

Extensions and scripts

Add web panels and JavaScript scripts that can do only what you allow. Scripts can run on a schedule or when a server connects.

Your own shortcuts

Every action is a command you can put on the keys you like, or start from the Windows Terminal set.

Pick up where you left off

Windows, layout pages and tabs come back the next time you start, and a connection can run a command once it is up.

In your language

English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean, with input methods that type straight into the terminal.

Feel and look

Pleasant to type in.
Easy on the eyes.

A GPU-rendered window that keeps up with fast output, and an optional smooth cursor that glides to where you type.

  • Dark, light, or follow the system; thirteen built-in color schemes
  • Bring schemes from Windows Terminal, iTerm2, Ghostty, Kitty or Alacritty, or make your own in the scheme editor
  • Background images, and acrylic or transparent windows
  • Your fonts, with ligatures and a separate font for Chinese, Japanese and Korean
In Settings, Color schemes, the interface switches from dark to light and back.

Under the hood

Native, light and quick.

OwlAttic Terminal is written in Rust with a GPU-rendered interface. Its terminal core is built on libghostty-vt from the open-source Ghostty project, so programs like vim, tmux and htop look and behave as they should.

Light and responsive

No browser engine behind the window: it opens quickly and stays responsive with many sessions open.

Works offline

Everything you need runs on your computer. No account and no internet connection required beyond your servers.

Planned next

  1. Import from Xshell, MobaXterm, PuTTY and FinalShell
  2. AI assistance with your own API key
  3. OwlAttic Agent: reach servers without open ports
  4. Sync between your computers, end-to-end encrypted
